a short story

Rob Young has written a short story, inspired by the mermaid exhibit in Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.

The story premiered at The Green Man Gallery in Buxton, as part of the half.fish Festival, a 3-day event run by Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, with support from Arts Council England. It was read by local actress Sarah Day.

I wrote the piece with a bottle of Blake Mere water on my desk. Some say it contains the spirit of a vengeful mermaid, perhaps the wife of Joshua Linnet, who had her drowned as a witch. Some say it's the ghost of a landlocked mermaid, brought home by a Sailor who has long since died. Some say, it's all hokum, but I returned it to the sea, just in case.
